One of God's greatest gifts to us is His Word as written in the Bible. Studying and meditating on God's word enables us to:
Build a Relationship With God
God's plan and desire from the beginning of creation was that all people should be in a personal relationship with Him - but our sins separated us from God. But God so loved us that He sent His only son Jesus who paid the price for our sins by dying on the cross on our behalf and so turned the hearts of all who put their faith in Him back into a relationship with God. As with all other earthly relationships, our relationship with God grows by our daily communication with Him through reading the bible, praying and doing life together with other believers in Jesus.
Grow in Our Faith
Every time we read the Bible, God extends an invitation for us to grow our faith in the Lord Jesus.
Learn God’s Truths
He is trustworthy because throughout the Bible, we see that what He says comes to pass! He is faithful and fulfills all His promises in His time. He is the only one on whom we can trust and depend, and so find our fulfillment in Him. The more time we spend reading God’s Word, the greater our enjoyment of the presence of the Lord in our lives.
Realize Our Need for God
It is only through our regular reading of the Bible that we begin to see no matter how challenging and desperate our circumstances may be, it is only through the power of the Spirit of God that we can overcome. The Bible stories show us that our God always stands with us, fights our battles and gives us the victory. What God has done for others, He will do for us. Nothing is impossible for our God.
Seek Forgiveness
Because the Lord Jesus has forgiven us our sins, we too should always be ready to forgive those who hurt us. Forgiveness should be an activity we should all be engaged in throughout each day. It is only then we can shine the light of Jesus on the world around us. When we seek forgiveness of our sins, the the word of God points us to the mercy and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ through His redemptive work on the cross and through His resurrection. 1 john 1:9 promises us that If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Safeguard Against False Teaching
The Bible warns us that twisting of God's word and false teaching would be on the increase in the days we are living in. It is therefore of the greatest importance that as God's children we should familiarize ourselves with the word of God so we can recognise what is false and totally reject it. Our greatest defence against false teaching is to speak the truth of God's word.
Guidance on How to Live
Our Lord desires to walk our life with us, to guide and direct our steps. (In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:6) Let His word guide you by the power of the Holy Spirit. Keep the company of godly friends, seek the counsel of those who fear God and through your actions and words, let your love be made known to those who do not know the Lord.
Fill Us With Hope
Do you need hope in your life? I am always in desperate need of it. Our God knew we would. So, He gave us Living Hope in Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3 The only living hope in a world that is spiraling out of control and into hopelessness is to come to the Lord Jesus Christ.
True Worship of the Lord our God
The Bible is our blueprint for the true worship of God. It teaches us that the true worship of God is related to how much we know of our God. The only way to know our God as Creator, Saviour, Lord, Provider, Protector, Healer and Blesser is to spend time with the word of God.
Start today! Accept God’s offer of the free gift of forgiveness of sins, salvation through Christ Jesus, and become a loved member of the family of God. You will then begin to enjoy a full and abundant life here on earth and through all eternity.
Accepting Jesus As Your Personal Savior
Would you like to receive God’s forgiveness and be assured of spending an eternity with Him? All you have to do is acknowledge that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, ask Him to forgive your sins, and turn away from your sins. Pray the following prayer to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior:
"Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen."
